Protect yourself from Ransomware

One of the worst things that can happen to your business machine is being infected with a ransomware attack. Ransomware is a type of malware attack that blocks access to important files or your device until a "ransom" sum of money is paid. A ransomware attack is usually done through social engineering, such as a phishing attack, that convinces the victim to click on a malicious attachment in an email such as, random invoices, orders, and random pdfs, usually from a strange email address. The malicious attachment then downloads the ransomware on the device and encrypts the victim’s files, once that is done the attacker holds all the files on the devices.

Cloud or Storage Back Up

Backing up important data is the most effective way of keeping secure from a ransomware infection. However your backup files should be appropriately protected and stored offline or out of sight, so they can’t be targeted by attackers. Using cloud services could help mitigate a ransomware infection, as many retain previous versions of files allowing you to roll back to an unencrypted version. Be sure to routinely test backups for efficacy. In the case of an attack, verify that your backups aren’t infected before rolling back.
